On Tuesday, March 24th, our school gym turned into a stage. Our students watched a modern version of Oscar Wildeâs âThe Canterville Ghostâ, performed by Viennaâs English Theatre â School Tours.
The Story
The story is about Lord Canterville, who has to sell his old castle. An American family, the Otis family, buys it. But Lucretia Otis wants to demolish the castle and build modern apartments. Her son Washington is only interested in computer games, but her daughter Virginia feels sad about the old castle.
What is special about this play?In this version, the famous ghost lives in todayâs world. He has to deal with smartphones, video games, and teenagers who are not afraid of him. This makes his job very difficult â even for a real ghost!
Meeting the Actors
At the end of the play, the students had the chance to meet the actors and take photos with them. This was a very special and exciting moment for everyone.
Learning and Creative Projects
In the weeks before the play, our second, third, and fourth grade students worked on the story in class. They read the play, learned important vocabulary and got to know the main characters.
Some groups also did creative projects. Ms. Riederâs students, for example, designed posters and tickets for the play in their elective course âBegabungsfördern Englischâ. The actors really admired their work and said they had never seen such posters and tickets at any other school before! đ
Other students like class 2a, worked on the play in their art lessons and drew scenes and characters from the story, which are displayed in the school hallways.
Learning English in a Fun Way
The theatre visit and the classroom activities helped our students learn English in a fun, interesting â and memorable â way.
A big âthank youâ to everyone who helped with this project!
